Hi, I'm Paris
I’m a Boston-based multimedia journalist and storyteller who loves a good conversation. Like the kind you’d have on the porch while sipping sweet tea, except my tea has a little Henny in it. Basically, I like making people feel at home, because that’s where I like to be.
Of course, home isn’t necessarily a place, but for all intents and purposes mine is Greensboro, NC. I’m a Southern girl through and through, and grew up with an abundance of sunshine, good cooking, and family near and far. My kinfolk are among the best storytellers I know, passing down tales about all the places and legends that existed long before I did. Those stories inspire the work that I do and I’m proud to be of the age where I’ve collected my own. Some of them are so dear you may not hear them until the day I cross over, but there’s a silver lining.

For now, I tell stories about our world and the identities, cultures and communities that make it up. I owe a great deal of my book smarts, life skills and basketball fandom to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I studied broadcast journalism and global studies (and stormed Franklin Street more than once. Go Heels!). I’ve also been a big Boston Celtics fan since that 2008 championship team. Even then, I never imagined living here, but life has a way of surprising you. I became a Bostonian in 2016, and have been seeking warmth and good barbecue ever since. School is also still a thing, as I round out the Social Impact M.B.A. program at Boston University.
I've worked with all kinds of mediums, be it punching up lines for a print story, cutting video and mapping out historical sites for a digital feature, or laying down tracks – and sometimes singing – for radio and podcasts. These days I’m getting up way too early to co-host GBH’s Morning Edition and The Wake Up podcast, and host a series called “A Walk Down the Block” that hits the streets in various neighborhoods to chat with residents there about the issues affecting them. I also host The State of Race produced in conjunction with GBH, GBH WORLD, the Boston Globe and the Boston NAACP.

To sum it all up – I believe in the power of storytelling to connect us over time, space, and our differences, and to help foster the critical understanding of each other that is increasingly needed. I am all about taking calculated risks, challenging norms, making honest mistakes, and having a good laugh. I like to go with the flow and take my time so I can act with love. Here’s to sharing a little with you.
